Processing cellulosic crop residues for ruminant feed

The methods available for processing of underutilized crop residues such as bagasse, rice hull and cane tops to improve digestibility and intake are reviewed. These include mechanical means e.g. grinding, blending with a more palatable foodstuff like molasses and steam treatment, and chemical means such as sodium hydroxide or ammonia treatment. Results indicate that NaOH is more effective than ammonia and experimental data is presented
