The findings of a survey of 146 rice farmers, mainly in south and central Trinidad, are presented. Information given includes acreage of land owned and planted in rice, yields, cultivation methods used, disease and pest control, fertilizer application, problems encountered and ways in which the government of Trinidad and Tobago could help rice farmers. 60 % of farmers reported that they still needed information on growing rice, mainly on technology, new varieties, fertilizer use and pest control. Approximately 50 % of farmers expressed a need for financial assistance from the government in the form of subsidies, loans and price control
