Influence of bioelements on the growth of three coniferous species

Komlenovic, N. | Rastovski, P. (Sumarski institut, Jastrebarsko (Yugoslavia))
The investigation dealt with the effects of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and calcium carbonate on common spruce (Picea abies), Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) and the black pine (Pinus nigra). Peat from Bosansko Grahovo (Yugoslavia) and from Poland was used as a substrate in containers for growing plants. The application of N, P and K fertilizers had a favourable effect upon the nutrition and growth of the plants as well as upon the change of the chemical composition of the substrate. The application of K2SO4 produced better results than the treatment with KCl. The addition of CaCO3 especially in larger doses caused disturbances in the nutrition and growth, primarily with the common spruce. Acidity reduction of the substrate should be selective and gradual. The chemical composition of irrigation water should also be taken into consideration.
