Contribution to the study of accumulation of needle litter in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) plantations, on different soils

Application of suitable mineral fertilizers especially nitrogen fertilizers has a favourable effect upon the production of biomass of needles and accumulation of needle litter in young seedlings of the Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). Content of ash and some bioelements mainly nitrogen and calcium is higher in the treated areas having the effect upon the relationship of fertilizers. By the addition of nitrogen fertilizer with participation of CaCO3 there could be activated microbiological activity on acid soils and thus quicken the nitrification. Greater accumulation of needle litter and its quicker mineralization have positive effect upon physical and chemical characteristics of the investigated soils.
