Effect of brackish water on the growth and yield of modern rice in coastal saline soil [of Bangladesh]
1988
Aich, A.C. | Podder, S.P.
Application of brackish water (0.7 to 6 m mhos/cm on the growth and yield of modern rice (BR-16) was studied consecutively for three years (1985-87) in coastal saline soil at Satkhira during Aus season. Various growth and yield components (viz. plant height, length of panicle, No. of filled grain/ panicle, wt. of 1000 filled grain, grain yield, etc) decreased significantly with increasing salinity. Growth and yield was not affected upto 2m mhos/cm possibly due to high concentration of salt in soil (3.8 m mhos/cm) soil Ec and pH at harvesting stage decreased slightly than the initial values (upto Ec 3 m mohos/cm) Accumulation of salt occurred slightly on the surface of soil beyond the concentration 3 m mhos/cm.
