Islam, Q.A.K.M.M.
An experiment was undertaken to find out the effect of pruning on the yield and quality of Baroi (Zizyphus mauritiana Lam.) at Hathazari, Chittagong during the year 1987-88. The cultivar 'Comilla kul' was used for this study. There were three types of pruning viz, no pruning (control), moderate pruning and severe pruning. The result indicated that the moderately pruned trees gave significantly highest yield (30257-2 g/tree) distantly followed by severity pruned trees (18720-9 g/tree). The controlled trees yielded the lowest (9693-4 g/tree). The number of fruits produced by the trees were also found to be influenced by pruning. The moderately pruned trees gave the maximum number of fruits (4207/tree) followed by the severely pruned trees (2503/tree), while, the controlled trees contributed the lowest (1034-9/tree). The drupes produced by the pruned trees were found to be lesser infested by the pests and diseases.
