Cellulose nitrates/nitrocellulose from jute wastes/jute microcrystalline cellulose [in Bangladesh]

A method has been developed at Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Dhaka to produce nitrocellulose having nitrogen content from 10-13% from jute. In this process jute/jute wastes were pretreated with alkali and then alphacellulose was prepared by chlorination and alkali treatments. Above fibres are then transformed into microcrystalline cellulose by hydrolysis. This microcrystalline cellulose/alpha-cellulose prepared above are then treated with a mixture of HND(3) and H(2)SO(4) at 20-40 degree C for 15-20 minutes. This method developed to produce nitrocellulose from jute/jute microcrystalline cellulose need further study like pilot plant scale production and cost analysis before commercialization.
