Effects of urea-pesticide combinations on humus fractions in soils

Choudhury, M.A. | Sattar, M.A.
A non-calcareous dark grey floodplain soil was treated with combined levels of urea (U) + dichlorvos (D) at the rates of 0 (control), 10U + 10D, 10U + 1000D, 10U + 10000D, 1000U + 10D, 1000U + 10D, 1000U + 1000D and 1000U + 10000D ppm levels with field capacity moisture, and incubated for 40 days at room temperature. After uniform mixing samples were collected after 0, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 days of incubation, and determined the humus fractions- fats, waxes and oils, resins polysaccharides, hemicellulose, cellulose, lignin and protein content in a soil. All seven humus fractions decreased gradually with increasing incubation time upto 40 days. Initially after 0- day the combined high or low dosages of U + D had no influence on any of the fractions. The most fractions decreased gradually with increasing the levels of both urea and dichlorvos. The overall yields decreased from 35 to 56% after 40 days with different fractions. The combined dosages of U + D were applied to the paired-t test for each fraction where they differed significantly at 0.5 to 10% (p 0.05 to 1.0).
