The effect of two storage temperatures (room and refrigerator) on motile spermatozoa of buck semen [Egypt]

Sixty-four pooled semen samples from eight Alpine bucks were used in the present study. The present study was designed to study the effect of two storage temperature (room and refrigerator) on motile spermatozoa of buck semen extended with three different sugars (lactose, fructose and glucose) and three dilution rates (1:5,1:7 and 1.9) in egg-yolk citrate buffer extender after seven periods of storage. Sperm motility was significantly (P0.01) affected by duration of storage. The highest survival rate was recorded in the dilution rate of 1:7 followed by 1:5 in all storage periods at room or refrigerator temperatures. Fructose yolk-citrate extender has the highest percentage of sperm motility at both room and refrigerator temperatures. The overall keeping quality (motile spermatozoa %) of buck semen at refrigerator temperature was significantly (P0.05) supior than at room temperature in all diluents and at different storage intervals.
