Effect of irrigation with different water qualities on some chemical and physical properties of the soil at two levels of moisture deplation [Egypt]

Pot experiment was carried out to study the combined effect of different qualities of irrigation water at two levels of soil moisture depletion in a clay soil of Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, on some chemical and physical properties of clay soil. The results obtained are summarized as follow: 1- Significant increase of both electrical conductivity, soluble sodium and chloride, was almost proportional to salts concentration of irrigation water. - pH values significantly increased with decreasing both concentration of salts in irrigation water and available water at irrigation time. - High content of soluble calcium and magnesium was found in soils which are irrigated with saline water, while levels of soluble potassium and bicarbonate were insignificantly affected by irrigation with the different water qualities. -Values of aggregation index and mean weight diameter increased with decreasing both salt concentration in water and available water at irrigation but such increase was insignificant.- Water stable aggregates 2.00 mm in soils irrigated at 75% of available water were lower than those in soils irrigated at 50% of available water, and this amount decreased with decreasing salinity level in water.- The optimum size of aggregates (2.00-0.50 mm) increased with decreasing both salinity level in irrigation water and available moisture content at time of irrigation.
