Growth and mineral composition of sour orange seedlings as affected by saline irrigation water [Egypt]

The influence of irrigation water salinity on vegetative growth, dry matter production and some nutrients content of sour orange seedlings has been investigated during 1986 and 1987 seasons in the nursery of Agriculture College, University of Mansoura. Four salinity levels; 370,2000, 4000 and 6000 ppm were used. The obtained results could be summarized as follows: Increasing levels of irrigation water salinity significantly decreased shoot elongation, leaf number and leaf area. Dry matter production is significantly reduced by increasing salinity levels and root growth being less affected than shoot growth. Relative growth rate decreased as irrigation water salinity levels increased. Increasing irrigation water,salinity levels caused an accumulation of Na and Ca. On the contrary, K, P and Mg were decreased in all seedling parts.
