Aggregation of some soil in the southern Delta region [Egypt]

Sixteen soil profiles were dug up in south Delta in Egypt to study the effect of different soil series on soil aggregation. Data reveal that the highest values of dry stable aggregates, water stable aggregates, MWD (dry sieving), MWD (Wet sieving) and MWD were attained for Qaliub, Menouf and Damanhour soil series, while the lowest ones found in Belbeis and Tell El-Kebir soil series. Statistical analysis shows that the highest direct and indirect effect on the values of MWD (dry sieving) are related to CEC, while the highest direct effect on MWD (wet seiving) is related to clay content. Moreover, the highest direct and indirect effect on the values of MWD are related to both CEC and clay content. Aggregation parameters such as state, degree and index are mostly affected by soil texture, CEC, exch-Ca++and Mg++. Also, data show that aggregation parameters of Qaliub, Damanhour and Menouf soil series are better than those of Belbeis and Tell El-Kebir.
