Application of Cotoran Multi (a new herbicide under experimention) at rates of 0.0, 8.5, 17.0, 340 and 51.0 mg/pot (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 kg/feddan) increased dry weight of the vegetative parts of cotton plant (Gossypium barbadense L. cv. Giza 45), their number of bolls, opening percentage of bolls and seed cotton, lint cotton and cotton seed yield. The 17 mg rate of Cotoran Multi X 34.0 mg rate of Nutrin/pot gave the best increase in seed cotton, lint cotton and seed yield. Cotoran Multi at different rates with no levels of Nutrin after 75 days from planting and at harvesting decreased total microbial counts of the soil depending greatly on the level of added herbicide. On the other hand, nitrifier counts were never affected. The favourate treatments which increased total counts of microflora, especially after 75 days from planting, were obtained by adding 34.0 and 51.0 mg Nutrin/pot with lowest rates of Cotoran Multi.
