Effect of different NPK formulae combined with Boron (B) and Zinc (Zn) nutrients on tomato productivity and fruit qualities [Egypt]

Early and total yields as well as chemical constituents of tomato as influenced by NPK ratio combined with Zn and B nutrients in two growing successive seasons (1982 and 1983). Doubling NPK formula, i.e., 2:2:2 (600 ammonium sulphate 21% N; 600 superphosphate 15.5% P205:200 Potassium sulphate 50% K2O kg/fed.) produced the maximum value of total yield and average fruit weight. Absence of each of the three macro-elements caused a reduction in the total yield while doubling N ratio caused a depression in early yield. Foliar application with combination of B(50 ppm)+Zn (100 ppm) gave the maximum weight of early and total yields. Absence of K from NPK formulae or doubling dose of N reduced fruit firmness. Fertilizing tomato plants with 2:1:1 or 2:2:2 NPK formulae caused increases of T.S.S. in fruits. whereas 1:1) NPK formula being superior in ascorbic acid content. The combination of B + Zn seemed to be effective on T.S.S. and Vitamin C content. Increasing K dose in NPK formula increased titratable acidity in fruits.
