Effect of seed cotton storage on fiber chemical properties of Egyptian cotton varieties [Egypt]

Storage of seed cotton is necessary whereas the harvesting rate exceeds the ginning rate. The main objectives of this work was to study the chemical characteristics of the three Egyptian cotton varieties, Giza 70, Giza 75 and Giza 77, under different periods of two types of seed cotton storage (inside and outside stores). One Kentar of each variety was stored outside and/or inside store for 8, 16 and 26 weeks into three replications in the two successive seasons 1984 and 1985. The two methods of seedcotton storage were at Gemmiza Agriculture Research station, relative humidity and temperature in outside and inside stores were recorded every day. The control treatment was estimated at the first day of November. The seed cotton storage resulted increases in lint percentage, ash percentage. Cellulose, Alpha cellulose and wax percentage decreased with seed cotton storage. Data showed that Giza 75 could be stored more savely than Giza 70 and Giza 77 varieties.
