Variation in character expression in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) cultivars in relation to environmental changes [Egypt]

Two spring (00-type) European oil rapeseed cultivars (Semu-201/8l Gi and Cresor) were used to study their response to four dates of sowing and to determine the influence of enviromental changes on the expression of some economic characters including seed yield and seed oil content. Both varieties were recently introduced into the Egyptian agriculture to be sown as winter crop. Two field experiments were carried out at the farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at Fayoum, during to successive winter seasons 1982/1983 and 1983/1984 using split plot desigen with 4 replicates. Analysis of variance showed that the differences due to varieties as well as to sowing dates were significant, with few exceptions. However, the interaction effects were insignificant. Semu 201 Gi exceeded Cresor variety with about 11-17% in seed weight/plant, 25-30% in leaf area/plant and number of seeds/pod, 35-60% in number of pods and seed yield/plant and 55-60% in seed yield/feddan.
