Efficiency of the anthocorid predator X. ylocoris flavipes (Reut.) in biological control of stored grain insects [Egypt]

Laboratory studies were conducted on the efficiency of the anthocorid predatory bug X. ylocoris flavipes (Reut.) as a biological control agent of stored grain and grain product insect pests. It was found that X. flavipes attacks eggs and young stages of almost all major pests of stored grain and other stored products. The adult insect is much more efficient than the nymphal stages, an adult consumes about double the total number of prey individuals consumed by the nymph. Within the nymphal stage, the last (5th) instar in the most efficient. It is indicated that coleopterous preys are more appropriate for the predator than lepidopterous preys. The predator develops faster, has a longer life span of adults and less mortality of the immature forms.
