Effect of lime application on the availability of phosphorus in a forest acid soil in Ghana
1985
Sampson, A.
The effect of lime, Ca(OH)2 application on availability of phosphorus for maize growth in the Boi series, a forest oxisol of Ghana is evaluated. The lime treated soils were incubated at room temperature for 40 days, with pH and available phosphorus determinations at 4-day intervals. Increase in pH and irregular increase in available phosphorus between pH 5.5 - 7.5 were observed. Highly significant difference (P=0.05) among treatments in the effect on shoot fresh/dry weights and root fresh/dry weights and six weeks after planting of maize were noted, the highest being recorded at lime level of 6 tons/acre at pH 6.9 and available phosphorus 67.2 kg/ha
