Prototype iron removal system suitable for small-scale groundwater supplies
1987
Amuzu, A.T. (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Accra (Ghana). Water Resources Research Inst.)
The development and field testing of a prototype iron removal system, fabricated with thin gauge (0.48 cm) aluminium plate, for ferruginous groundwaters in Ghana is provided. The break-through of iron particles into filtered water was encountered but skimming of the top 0.5 cm of the filter media after 12 hrs continuous operations of 48 h intermittent operation reduced the break-through problem. The percentage removal of iron during the field testing ranged from 88.6 to 100%
