Production of energetically favourable maize hybrids using gamma irradiation source (60 C degrees)

Morpholocically different mutant maize lines produced by gamma irradiation were studied with a view to gain energetically more favourable hybrids. It was found that a much smaller heat quantity is required for reducing from 35 to 25 per cent the grain moisture content in hybrids produced using mutant lines. In hybrid combinations produced with mutant lines the dry matter accumulation in the grain ends with a low water content that refers to a more intensive evapotranspiration going on parallel with the dry matter incorporation. In these hybrids the high rate evapotranspiration is continued even after the hundred-per-cent incorporation of the dry matter.
