A report is given on the data of the tests carried out regularly between 1975 and in 1986 in GDR, in order to detect organic chlorine compound residues in butter, whole milk powder - including milk-based babyfoods - and in raw milk. Summing up the results a decrease of contamination has been observed which is mainly due to the restrictive measures. No sample examined in the last years has exceeded the maximum value permitted officially for residues in GDR. In contrast with the results of thin-layer chromatographic analyses of butter and milk powder, all raw milk samples have been found contaminated when examined whith gas-cromatograph. The above data have been compared with those received during the examination of residues in human milk in 1979 and 1985/86 in form of ADI per cent. The comparision has shown significantly greater exposition for HBC and all DDT in babies fed with human milk, than in babies fed with milk-based babyfoods. However, the decreasing trends of contamination both in human and cow milk observed in the last 5-7 years, justifies optimism in this field.
