Experiments were carried out to find the varietal differences in the frequency, size of stomata, and affection of nitrogen application and low temperature on stomatal movement of rice seedling. The stomatal frequency was higher in the order of Tongil-type, Indica and Japonica, Small-grain cultivars showed higher stomatal frequency than large-grain cultivars. But the size of stomata was larger in contrary order of stomatal frequency; that is, Chucheongbyeo (Japonica) or Zhy-Li-An-Yun-Nan (Large-grain) showed larger size of stomata than Yongjubyeo (Tongil-type) or Chien chank 198A (Smallgrain). The stomatal aperture was increased by nitrogen application. The tongil-type rice cultivars maintained the higher level of stomatal aperture than Japonica rice cultivars under both temperature conditions (28/25deg C, 12/12deg C)
