Band application of basal fertilizer at the same time with machine transplanting in paddy field was tested to minimize the labor for fertilizer application and to increase the utilization of fertilizer. Variety tested was Hwaseongbyeo, Japonica type variety. Plant height and tiller number per hill at band application of fertilizer were higher than those at whole layer application at early growth stage, whereas no differences were observed at late growth stage. Percent effective tiller was lower at band application than whole layer application at any fertilizers due to higher tiller number at early growth stage. Internode elongation of lower part at band application was lower as compared with that at whole layer application. Grain yield of band application was higher than that of whole layer application due to higher ripening ratio and head rice grain percent. No differences of inorganic elements in the rice plants were observed at different fertilizers and application methods of fertilizer
