The corn on-farm research/experiments were designed to solve the major problems on corn production in Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat [Philippines]. These problems were: (a) high population density of Rottboellia exaltata in the farmers' corn field, (b) nitrogen deficiency, and (c) low yield potential of the commonly used traditional variety. Maize yield were significantly increased by the application of 46-69 kg N/ha. The optimum rate was concluded later to be at 69 kg N/ha, split applied at planting and at hilling-up. Soil phosphorus and potassium were at sufficient levels. The most economical and effective means of weed control is the application of 0.75 + 0.31 kg a.i/ha of Atrazine and Pendimethaline in strips during planting and after hilling-up. On the other hand, variety trials confirmed that by switching from traditional variety (tiniguib) to improved, open pollinated varieties, significant yield increments could be attained, using the same level of input and crop management. From these results, a package of technology was prepared for the corn farmers at Bagumbayan. It was tested for four crop cycles and results revealed that the medium technology OFR Best Bet alternative gave the highest economic returns. This package of technology is now ready for adoption by farmers whose circumstances are similar as those in Bagumbayan.
