Effect of mineral fertilization level on the elastic properties of the cell wall material of the stalks of cereals of various species

Under heavy fertilizer applications of 300 and 450 NPK per ha the elastic properties of the cell wall material and dry matter content of the stalks decreased. Decrease in elasticity was related to the orientation of cellulose microfibrilles in the cell walls. The greatest variation in cell wall elasticity was found in wheat.
