During 1983-1986 the influence of nitrogen fertilizer on irrigated temporary pastures composed of 50 % grasses and 50 % perennial leguminosae was studied in the Plain of Vlasia, of Moara Domneasca, on a reddish-brown soil with 50 kg/ha P2O5 as background. Nitrogen rates over 50 kg/ha (N100-150) were split dressed: 50 kg/ha in spring and 50 kg/ha after the first and second mowing. The mixtures recommended are: Dactylis glomerata - Poiana or Bromus inermis - Orfeu, associated with Trifolium pratense - Select 30 % and Trifolium repens Ladino-Crau 20%. In these mixtures, gradual nitrogen rates had a reduced effect on dry matter yield, since leguminosae maintained their 50 % average participation, throughout the exploitation period. Small and moderate nitrogen rates (N50-100) resulted on 3 year average yields of 10 t/ha dry matter with 16-18 % crude protein content and crude protein yields between 1,400 and 1,500 kg/ha in the first year of exploitation
