Farmers prefered to use duck and muscove duck to feast guests who came to help them threshing rice, especially the farmers in Ban Koa area. The favorite dishes were Larb Ped (Spicy minced duck) and Gang Kua Ped (duck curry). Since duck were bigger in size and had more fat than chickens, when they were made into dishes to feast a lot of people, the farmers could save more money than when they use other kind of meat. Ducks had less epidemic than chickens and the farmers could raise the flocks in their backyards. This enable the middle class and poor farmers to use duck meat feasting the guests during the harvest season. They would need more ducks if they had better higher rice production. Besides feasting the guests, duck-egg is good protein source for farmers. They could sell their extra eggs too. One disadventage for duck is they could not hatch their own eggs. They need muscovy duck or hen to do the job. This results in a small number of ducks in the village. The farmers had to buy ducklings from the merchants every year.
