The resistance of calves and lambs to Echinococcus granulosus of porcine origin has been studied using separate experiments. First of all, young dogs were infected with Echinococcus granulosus protoscoleces from porcine hepatic cysts. Three months later, the dogs were euthanatized and the ovigerous tapeworms were collected. Calves and lambs were perorally given gravid segments. Echinococcus cysts were not found in any of the calves. Individual nodules were found on the lamb livers, 0.5-1 mm in size. It was concluded that calves and lambs in this study, are not suitable for normal development of the E. granulosus larvae of porcine origin.
