Hyperkalaemia was induced by intravenous infusion of the isotonic solution of potassium chloride in 7 buffalo-calves, aged 1-2 years. The uncompensated respiratory alkalosis along with significant hypoxaemia were observed. There was no considerable change in the arterial and venous oxygen saturation, oxygen content and the oxygen unloading potential (P50). However, the oxygen extraction ratio decreased considerably immediately after hyperkalaemia but it increased in the later stages.
