[Scaphoideus titanus Ball (= Sc. littoralis Ball), a new grapevine pest in Yugoslavia]

On the basis of four years of observations, the presence of cicadas (Scaphoideus titanus Ball.) in Yugoslavia has been established. Up till now, they have only been found in the vineyard region of the western part of Slovenia (Yugoslavia). The population is modest. Its biology is completely identical to other regions of southern Europe. Adult cicadas appear towards the end of July or at the beginning of August. S. titanus does not cause significant, direct damage to the grapevines, but it is known as the carrier of the disease, "Flavescence doree". Insecticide use is recommended.
