The reduction of the total and imbibitional phosphorus in rations, given to young egg-laying hens, had a positive effect on the hardness of the egg-shell in the first stage of egg-laying. Reductions of phosphorus levels in rations did not have undesirable effects on the consumption of food, weight of the eggs, nor the number of layed eggs.
