It has been established that a negative energy balance exists in cows after calving because of a reduced fodder consumption, because of which it then came to the mobilization of bodily reserves, which lasted up to 5 weeks after calving, but was the greatest right after calving. The use of bodily reserves is followed by a change in the biochemical blood indicators, especially in common fat acids. When compared to other cows, the group of cows which lost the most weight, had a significantly higher ketone level in the blood serum, subclinical and clinical ketoses, and functional and morphological changes in the liver. These are some of the factors which effect the mobilization of bodily reserves: the general condition, age and the milking capacity of the cow.
