Photosynthesis and transpiration rates of four varieties of mungbean, Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek, determined under variable light and temperature regimes were compared. Plants were grown in pots under natural environment. Photosynthetic light response characteristics of mungbean were performed at PFD ranging between 0 and 2,000 mu mol m(2) s(1) while temperature effect evaluated at 15 to 45 deg. C in controlled conditions light saturation of Pn was observed at a PFD of 1600 mu mol(2) s(1). Light response of transpiration showed almost a similar pattern to that observed in photosynthesis. At lower PFD, WOW increased proportionately but attained plateau at around 800 PFD. An optimum type of Pn response curve in respect to temperature showing maximum Pn at around 25 deg. C was obtained. A linear relation between Pn and gual, and between E and gual was observed suggesting a consequential close relationship between E and Pn.
