1989

Wheat (var. Kanchan) was grown in pods during 1988-89 as test crop at IPSA to determine the nutritional status of red-brown terrace soil at IPSA farm. This was a second year experiment to evaluate the effects of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur and zinc in IPSA soil. -N, -P, -K, -S, -Zn, control (without any nutrient element) and complete (with all the nutrient elements) constituted the treatments. Morphologically stunted growth, pale green leaf color, reduced number of leaves were recorded for -P and -N treatments. In these two treatments, number of tillers were 4.7 and 3.1 per plant respectively and were found reduced compared to the complete treatment (10.3 tillers/plant). Effective tiller number were also significantly reduced and were only 3.9 and 1.4/pl. for -P than the complete treatment respectively. -P and -N treated plants had 14.4 and 11.21 spikelets/spike compared to 16.67 spikelets/spike (13.6 and 32.8% reduced) of the complete. Seed yield/plant were found only 1.74 and 1.26 g for -P and -N treatments respectively. Seed yield of complete treatment was recorded as 6.01 g/plant.
