[Economic analysis of land holdings characteristic and fragmentation distribution in Jordan]

This study has three principle objectives, (1) to describe and analyse the characteristics of holdings in Jordan, (2) analyse the fragmentation of holdings and (3) to analyse and compute the farm holdings size. The results of this study show that there is inequality of land holdings distribution among holders, decreasing of size and increasing of fragmentation of land. The decrease in size and fragmentation of the operational holdings have led to inefficiency of cultivation and production and increasing difficulties in controlling soil erosion in many areas. Under the present circumstances yield and production on such lands steadily decline. This study suggests some recommendations to improve socioeconomic agricultural sector, such as land reform program, collection of farmers under rotation system on large blocks to introduce new technology, establishment of cooperative land reform program to aid consolidation of fragmented holdings effects, and improve the production capacity
