In a developmental project aiming at improving the reproductive abilities of the local Awassi (A) sheep; estrus synchronization and artificial insemination (AI) were applied to obtain an accelerated lambing program within a specific period and more lambs that are homogenous in age and weight. Results showed that conception rate (CR) of AI-ed A ewes was 63.3%, which was 20% higher than that of naturally bred ewes, because the AI group was inseminated at the end of estrus and at a determined time. In case of the crosses, fertility increased with different genotypes, and CR ranged from 50-80%. Results were similar to those reported in literature (60-70%), however, some of the group CR was higher. Synchronization of estrus shortly before the breeding season in sheep resulted in better fertility in about 2/3 of the flock
