Recommendations for fish passage at the Lake Mangamahoe diversion weir on the Waiwakaiho River
1991
Mitchell, C.P. (MAF Fisheries, Rotorua (New Zealand))
This report recommends that a fish pass be established on the Waiwakaiho River, New Zealand. Diversion of the river through the Mangamahoe Hydroelectric Power Scheme has impacted on the fish populations and the pass will allow a range of native fishes already present in the lower river to reestablish their populations above the diversion weir. The recommended design does not require large amounts of water or much maintenance. No power source is necessary nor is there any need for sophisticated equipment. The primary construction materials are reinforced concrete and river stones
