Integrated control of club root of crucifera caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae

Different treatments namely: Paecilomyces lilacinus alone (2.8 x 10 to the seventh power spores/ml), agricultural lime (4 tons/ha), benlate 50 WP (1 g/liter water), combination of P. lilacinus + lime, benlate + lime, P. lilacinus + benlate and the integration of P. lilacinus + lime + benlate were evaluated to determine their efficacy in controlling club root of crucifers. Untreated plants were provided to serve as control. The treatments were replicated three times using the Randomized Complete Block Design. Based on club root severity rating, combination of P. lilacinus + lime was the most effective followed closely by lime alone, integration of P. lilacinus + lime + benlate, and benlate + lime with percentage disease control of 70.33, 58.83, 57.50 and 56.33, respectively. The efficacy of P. lilacinus alone, on the other hand, was comparable to benlate 50 WP. Among the different treatments, combination of the fungus and benlate gave the lowest percentage disease control of 30.00. Nevertheless, the disease rating of the said treatment was significantly lower than the untreated plants which were severely infected. In terms of growth depression, however, the same trend of efficacy was noted among treatments. On the other hand, due to severe infestation of the diamondback moth, yield of the plants were severely affected.
