Effect of plant spacing and Salvinia molesta on yield of transplanted rice (Oryza sativa) [Philippines]

The experiment was conducted in a farmer's field in Barangay San Matias, Dingle, Iloilo [Philippines] from October 13, 1986 to January 25, 1987 to determine the effects of plant spacing and Salvinia molesta D.S. Mitchell infestation on the yield of transplanted IR64 rice (Oryza sativa L.). Neither plant spacing nor S. molesta infestation had any effect on crop yield. Closer plant spacing significantly reduced the dry weight of S. molesta at harvest. The dry weight of Monochoria vaginalis (Burm.f.) Presl., the dominant weed in the area, was reduced by 94.5% when S. molesta was inoculated at planting
