Preliminary evaluation of hybrids from common and hard wheats

In an effort to increase variation of breeding materials the Wheat Breeding Station at Pustkow is intercrossing various domestic and foreign varieties. This program involves also hard wheats. Hybrids derived from crossing hard wheats P 2215/83 and P 5657/83 with Henika and Eta have been preliminary evaluated. In the F3 generation they showed resistance to germination, an increased water absorption, milling ability for grits, improvement of gluten quality, and hybrids with Henika displayed a marked growth of protein content and 1000 grain weight
