Yielding of Dutch ryegrass undersowings depending on the sowing and nitrogen rate. Pt. 1. Undersowings in rye cultivated for grain

Dutch ryegrass cultivated for 4 years as an undersowing in winter rye failed only once due to the drought, similarly as undersowings of seradella and Persian clover. The sowing rate varying from 20 to 80 kg of Dutch ryegrass seeds per hectare did not differentiate significantly its green and dry matter yield nor its fodder value. Increased nitrogen rate from 37.5 to 150 kg N/ha led to an increment of the Dutch ryegrass yield of the green matter by 74 per cent, of air-dry matter by 53 per cent, total protein by 100 per cent, and of the sum of oat units by 47 per cent. Under the effect of nitrogen rates increased the percentual content of total protein, fat and mineral elements and decreased the content of fibre and nitrogen-free extracts. Dutch ryegrass fertilized with high nitrogen rates were superior with regard to the yield mass to undersowings of seradella and Persian clover
