Effect of accelerated aging and osmoconditioning on germination of Melia azedarach linn. seeds
1986
Hatairatana Bonchaleo
Accelerated aging technique significantly affected the germination percentage and speed of germination. Provenance variation were significant in both germination percentage and germination speed. Seeds collected from Muak Lek plantation showed higher germination percentage and germination speed than seed originating from both natural forests. In case of osmoconditioning induced by Polythylene glycol, osmotica delayed the emergence of the seed. Osmoconditioning significantly affected the germination speed and percentage. After treating Persian Lilac seeds for various periods of osmoconditioning, germination speed differed significantly, while the differences in germination percentage were insignificant. Provenance variation in germination speed and germination percentage also differed significantly. Seeds collected from MuaK Lek natural forest had the highest germination speed and germination percentage compared to the other seed lots. Osmotic potential during germination significantly affected the shoot length of Persian lilac seedling more than the root length. After treatment with PEG osmotica, provenance variation in shoot length and root length was small.
