40 Yugoslav sunflower hybrids were investigated. The experiment was carried out on chernozem with the application of usual agricultural engineering, i.e. ploughing in autumn at 30 cm depth, fertilization with the quantity of 64 kg of N/ha and 64 kg of potassium/ha. Roots were controlled with herbicides. Sowing was carried out on the 24th of April, at a standard distance between rows (70 cm), while the distance within rows depended on hybrids, 25.0, 27.0, 29.5 and 34.5 cm. Seed yield, oil content in seeds, oil yield per 1 ha, plant height, resistance to lodging and diseases were determined. The hybrid height ranged from 132 cm (NS-H-71) to 238 cm (NS-H-60). All hybrids were resistant to blight (Plasmohara H.). Resistance to Phomopsis was different and ranged from total resistance to 95% of infected plants in some hybrids. Resistance to some forms of Sclerotinia was different, as well. The best total results were obtained with the NS-H-52 hybrid (3.32 t/ha - seed yield, 52.8% - oil content).
