Rate of respiration of corn hybrids (Zea mays L.) in the germination - shorting stage
1987
Teklic, T. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Osijek (Yugoslavia))
The rate of respiration was tested in 5 maize hybrid seedlings that germinated at the temperature of 18-20'C with single wetting and natural light. Measuring of the rate of respiration was carried out at the temperature of 20 C in the dark, 6 times in the period from seed wetting to shooting of the first, real leaf. The contents of N, P and K were cetermined in the seed of the investigated hybrids before germinating in glass bathtubs, in seedlings after the last measuring of the rate of respiration and in shoots without rootlets and seed residues. It was established that the investigated hybrids varied significantly in the contents of N, P and K in the seed as well as in the mobilization and translocation of these elements to hypocotyl.
