Selection of fertile and growth line of rabbits in Slovenia [Yugoslavia]

The development of breeding programming model for maternal line "A" in pattern of three-way eg. double crossing of rabbits for meat production is presented as well as the results of researches on White New Zeland herd. The number of cubs per doe, per year in the first year of housing was 43,05 with the rate of losses of 9.94 % (from birth till weaning). The average weight at 65th day was 1.862 g. The season of birth has a statistically significant effect on the weight and on the daily gain at the weaning and on the 65th and the 95th day of age. The heritability estimations for weights at the above mentioned weightings varied from 0,32 to 0,39. Selection on fertility and growth is based on the selection index for mothers and on the weight of descendants and their SIBs (the weight was corrected on the 75th day of age).
