A 3-year investigation of the level of mineral residues and 13 macro- and micro-elements in CaCO3, calcyte form, from Podcrkavlje are deposits of the firm "Domin", Slavonski Brod (Yugoslavia). The deposit of carbonate compounds of calcium in Podcrkavlje are deposits, Domin, Slavonski Brod. High levels of calcium and tolerant levels of the examined macro- and microelements. The results of chemical analyses and IR scans of CaCO4, samples from the "Domin" show a calcyte form of chalk that meets quality requirements of poultry nutrition. The high iron level in the "Domin" deposits means that no additional iron is to be used with premixes fed to any type or category of poultry. A poor utilization of mineral matter in the poultry feeds, their possible interactions and insufficient utilization of vitamins and fats require the addition of chelated mineral matter to poultry feedstuffs, especially by way of essential amino acids as carriers. The general and specific functions of calcium for poultry nutrition, as available in the chalk, require much more complex studies in both in vitro and in vivo systems.
