Importance of pig breeding with regard to halves gain per day of life

The results obtained by investigation of 19 combinations of crossing and purebred animals of the Swedish Landrace (total number of the animals included in this investigation amounts to 3,177) seem to indicate: Crossing had in the most cases a favourable effect on the gain of halves per day of life - net daily gain by the animals of both sexes (females not castrated and males castrated). A significantly higher net daily gain by female crosses, compared with purebred animals of the same sex, realized the groups 5, 9 and 12 very significantly higher the groups 2, 4, 8, 10, 16, 17 and 19. By the same comparison in castrates stood out the groups 2, 4, 7, 8, 10, 16, 17 and 19 of crosses with a very significantly higher gain of halves per day of life. The heterosis--effect against net daily gain was manifested by females from 0.28 to 12.33% and by the castrates from 0.82 to 10.21%. Various coefficients of heritability have been found in the genetic groups (purebred animals and two combinations of double-breed crosses) and also among the same group depending upon the sex of the animals, provided that the most manifested difference of the judgement rate (from 0.0182 to 0.4951) refers to the crosses.
