Quantitative analysis of the traits of the tassel in crosses of sister self-polinate lines of maize
1989
Brkic, I.
Tassel properties which influence the pollen production and the tassel development in morphological sense, have been investigated in sister, inbred lines of maize, their direct and reciprocal crosses in F2 and reciprocal cross generations. The following tassel properties have been investigated: the length, number of branches and spiklets (5cm distant from the top branch) and the total length of branches. Variability and heritability for the investigated tassel properties in parents and cross generations have been established. Genetic gain has been evaluated. It has been found that heredity of the tassel length and number of spikelets indicates the occurrence of overdominance, whereas the additive effect of genes prevails for the number of branches. The evaluations of heritability are variable among the F2 generations.
