Detection of enterobacteria with R-factors in healthy domestic animals
1987
Popara, J. (Veterinarska stanica, Sarajevo (Yugoslavia))
A total of 176 strains of enterobacteria resistant to antibiotics/ haemotherapeutic agents were isolated from feces and intensine contents of healthy animals, that is, 122 strains of Escherichia coli, 34 of Enterobacter spp., 19 of Proteus spp. and 1 strain of Salmonella paratyphi A. The largest number of samples containing the resistant strains of enterobacteria was found in swines (95%), then in poultry (73.5%), dogs (30%), lambs (20%) and young cattle (14%). Resistant strains were mostly isolated from swines (50%), chickens (36.9%), young cattle (51.1%), dogs (5.1%) and lambs (2.8%). All resistant strains were multiresistant. R-factors were found in 73.1% of E.coli strains, 89.4% of Proteus spp. strains and 81.1% of Enterobacter spp. Determinants of resistance transferred the strains of E.coli (39%) and Proteus spp. (30.1%). A number of resistant strains were found in swines and poultry fed with food containing antibiotics.
