Farmers' characteristics affecting agricultural knowledge and adoption of innovations

The main objectives of the study were to identify the important personal and socio-economic characteristics of the contributing to their agricultural knowledge and extent of adoption. One hundred farmers were selected randomly and data were collected by interviewing the respondents. Two dependent variables- agricultural knowledge and adoption of innovation and six independent variables-age, education, farm size, income, organizational participation and extension contact of the farmers were selected for this study. Education, income, organizational participation and extension contact were highly correlated with and contributed to both agricultural knowledge and adoption of innovations. Farm size contributed to agricultural knowledge but not to the adoption of innovations. Age showed negative correlation with both the dependent variables of nutrition
